Welcome Everyone with my first poem after an intensive poetry workshop online, with Poemar.com, that lasted one month and concluded with a birthday for which the best birthday present anyone could have ever given me was realized when Poemar taught me how to write a poem in Portuguese!! Here goes my first poem ever which I also dedicate to beautiful students photographed below! Just click and open the following web link to hear a portuguese poet read aloud, "No teu olhar," in Portuguese! http://www.profgreen.us/Olhar.html

As
quoted from Intute: Arts and Humanities Website of UK universities and partners:
"This website, http://paginas.fe.up.pt/~fado/, is devoted to Fado, traditional Portuguese music, which will be of interest to those studying Portuguese culture. The site offers a brief history of the genesis of Fado and clarification of the different types of Fado. The site is keen to point out that Fado should be understood as a uniquely Portuguese symbol of cultural identity and is not the national song. In order to enrich users' appreciation of Fado, the site presents various illustrations and photographs of Fado musicians, and audio files of musical performances. Indeed, the whole site is accompanied by Fado music (there is the option to turn this background music off). Biographies of a small selection of notable musicians and singers are provided, as is a detailed study of the Fado guitar. Its history, playing technique and mechanics are explained at length. The site's text is available in both Portuguese and English, although the English translation can be a little idiosyncratic. In short, http://paginas.fe.up.pt/~fado/ is a good, informative introduction to a key aspect of Portuguese culture."

Para construir esta muralha

To build this wall,
|
| -¡Tun, tun! -¿Quién es? -Una rosa y un clavel... -¡Abre la muralla! |
Tum, tum! |
-Tun, Tun! -Who is it? -A rose and a carnation... -Open the wall! |
| -¡Tun, tun! -¿Quién es? -El sable del coronel... -¡Cierra la muralla! |
Tum, tum! Quem és? O sabre do coronel.... Fecha a muralha! |
A rose and a carnation... -Open the wall! |
| -¡Tun, tun! -¿Quién es? -La paloma y el laurel... -¡Abre la muralla! |
Tum, Tum! |

|
To the heart of the Friend, Open the wall; To the poison and the knife, Close the wall; |
|
To the myrtle and the mint, To the nightingale on the flower, Open the wall... |
|
Let's build a wall,
The Whites, their White hands. |
A muralha continuará

We hope you enjoy it. (As composed by all of us for all of you in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela and from around the world.)

"Nuestra Señora
del Pilar (Spanish for "Our Lady of the Pillar") the
name given to Virgin Mary for her appearance in Spain, whose shrine (Nuestra
Señora del Pilar Basilica) is in Zaragoza, Spain, by the river
Ebro.
According to legend, in the early days of the Church, the Apostle James the Greater was evangelizing the Gospel in Caesaraugusta, but making little progress when miraculously he saw Mary on a pillar committing him to Jerusalem. In it, she was atop a column or pillar, which was being carried by angels. That pillar is believed to be the same one venerated in Zaragoza, Spain today. Miraculous healings have been reported at the scene. "In Zamboanga City, The Philippines, the Virgin of the Pillar has been venerated for almost five centuries. Her statue is embossed at the top of the facade of the 16th century Spanish military fort called El Fuerza Real de Nuestra Señora Virgen del Pilar de Zaragoza. The military fort is now a Catholic Marian Shrine. The city also has a street named after her - Pilar Street. Our Lady of the Pillar is celebrated on 12 October and is the patron virgin of Spain, Hispanics, the hispanicized City of Zamboanga in The Philippines, and the Civil Guard of Spain.
There is also an Argentine city, Pilar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilar
